(8,492 posts)We can be relatively certain that these young men are wearing clean underwear.

(72,300 posts)Hate to admit it but this makes me feel old.
I don't want to see 4 to 6 inches of underwear above pants.
Wildwood NJ just banned

(72,300 posts)It really is a turn off.
My post to this thread.
It may be of some help.

(322 posts)That is the "proper" term. When people are arrested they take the belt to prevent hanging of self.
Among some of the world it became a badge of honor, having been inside or just a wanna be.
How it became a "fashion" statement is beyond my comprehension.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)I'm sure some of them might even believe it.
Also been told a lot easier to carry a shot gun with pants in that position. That of course opens a whole different avenue of exploration.

(58,713 posts)yeah, it's part of the "gansta" look. Urban ghetto kind of thing.

(322 posts)That is the term as explained to me by a gentleman who had just gotten out of jail back in the early 90's. in Md. Don't even know if it still applies but I have heard nothing different, so who knows for sure. By now it could have a different meaning.

(58,713 posts)There seems to be a new fashion trend I've noticed over the past few months. Couple of years, I guess. I haven't seen many, but I've seen a few.
is with the belt line of your pants around your ass or lower and skinny leg jeans?
Truly leaves me wondering about the future or our youth.
Could be they are conveying something us older folks know nothing about.
It does give pause for thought and speculation. Not all in my mind as being :nice"

(72,300 posts)This isn't a good look either.

(64,933 posts)I think there is more to this than we are willing to admit. I'll take the young african american with his underpants showing any day over the the white guy flashing his butt crack.

(66,462 posts)Young kids wearing clothes specifically designed to annoy the older generation. (That's us now, I guess.)
College kids in the 1920's would wear "Oxford bags", very baggy pants that would send their elders into frenzies of disapproval.
It's been going on longer than that, actually.
In England in the 18th Century, there was a young mens' club called the Macaroni Club. The only requirements for membership were to be a rich kid with too much money, too much time on his hands, and a penchant for outrageous clothing. The more flamboyant, the better. It really annoyed the staid, conservative older generation.
During the revolution. British soldiers used to make fun of the American troops, deriding them as country bumpkins so unsophisticated that they thought sticking a feather in their caps would make them fancy enough to belong to the Macaroni Club.
They sang a song about it that survives to this day:
Yankee Doodle went to town
Riding on a pony,
Stuck a feather in his cap,
And called it 'Macaroni'.

(72,300 posts)I was a flower child.
My lack of clothes concerns people when it really shouldn't.
Sometimes I stick a feather in my hat.
What do you have to say about that?

It out. Just had to see how this thread was going.
Must admit clothing styles do change. They even go back to the style of yesteryear..
