(32,088 posts)I will look at various Twitter feeds, but I don't use it myself. I use Facebook, which bad enough. Don't feel the need to put my life out there any more than I already do.

You made it my business.

(8,217 posts)Twitter to me is like a 24 hour diary.
Going around broadcasting what has been done in a very pervasive manner.
Like Facebook it connects to many aspects of the internet.
Like Facebook it is one of those things that I think slow down the internet due to it's connectivity.
Not really my thing.
Though you may be right. My time with message boards probably should come to an end soon. I've been a member of various boards since the late 90s, it's harder to get out of.
I generally use these things for news and a resource on being able to understand issues a bit better. So, it may be for the best to read more, post even less.

(27,677 posts)I don't follow people who make "what I had for breakfast" type posts. It's basically RSS for my phone.
Following @TAB_DIY, @AstroKarenN, @BreakingNews, @billmaher, @neiltyson, @louisck, @CraigyFerg, @StephenAtHome, @GeorgeTakei

I don't want a network where I'd feel obligated to post.

(17,671 posts)Twitter is just more than I can stand. You only get what, 140 characters? Jeez. I've noticed that there advertisements inserted into Facebook now. And it doesn't really facilitate conversations like an online forum like DU. It is really designed for short comments and pictures.
The fact that they are monetizing relationships is bad enough. But when you consider that each site is x amount of human interaction and y amount of advertising and data collection, reducing the richness of language to little more than grunts and snorts in relation to the amount on monetization that they can squeeze out of it makes it repugnant to me.

(20,176 posts)It's easier done when I have a smartphone than now. I don't want to be logged-in to it all day on my computer.
I occasionally twitter for potential work. I have that Social Media certificate, I kind of have to stay on top of how to best utilize those tools.

(72,790 posts)For my job, it's a valuable tool.
I also have a personal account, but don't use it that often.
Give it a try. If you don't like it, delete your account. If you like it, follow me! lol

I have @onehandle to follow politics. Politics and career, you want to keep separate.

On a lighter note, I follow a few inspirational or funny folks too. I'm not heavily into it, but it's useful at times.

(4,465 posts)I find that when I'm on there I'm too busy reading my time line and reading interesting stuff to actually tweet anything myself though, lol.
But as far as politics go, perception/narrative is important. Twitter is so popular- even the President tweets- I want to contribute to that narrative. I don't want "#tcot" to be the dominant voice on Twitter.
If you're on DU then, in my opinion, it would be a natural jump to open a twitter account to support the people and organizations important to you even if you never tweet. You can follow and re-tweet to show your support.

I don't really care about what anyone is doing unless they have an emergency at that moment. If it's great or terrible, they can tell me later in a real conversation. If it's not, why do I need to know?
FWIW, I don't text, either. Same reason.

(10,109 posts)Hi,
Like pokerfan said, it is all in who you follow. I don't post much but I do follow a lot of people and interests that I have. I like how you can keep finding more and more feeds to follow that match your interests. I find a lot of the comments here interesting poo pooing it out of hand. I guess I do that with Facebook. I like the immediacy and shortness of Twitter. I must not be following the right people because none of the posters I follow post about what they had for breakfast, although Anthony Bourdain does post some food pics sometimes.
Peace

(30,252 posts)I'm not an elected official, I'm not a wealthy philanthropist, I'm not a movie star, and I don't have any pressing need to tell you what my latest score is on Candy Crush Saga or how many pepperoni slices adorn the pizza I'm currently eating.
And Twitter really needs a smartphone, which I have yet to obtain - partially because I'm unemployed.

(20,776 posts)I love it, It gives me a chance to post Jpop, Jrock, Visuel Kei videos to my followers, who love Japanese and Asian music. I also have some friends who are actually in Japanese bands, and are big there, for example I am followed by two guys from Antic Cafe, and followed by others like; Aural Vampire, JinnyOops, M:a.ture, Chatmonchy, and a few others. I am also followed by Yoko Ono! (She follows mostly everyone anyway!) and its a kick to occassionally get a message from one or two of them.
I even got a hello from William Shatner. That made my day!
