Penance for buying Chinese shoes?

I needed a new pair of shoes. Apparently, ones feet lengthen ones whole life and the Rockports I bought almost a decade ago no longer fit.

So, I went to a real shoe store that has knowledgeable staff equipped with those foot rulers and an unusual amount of non-Chinese shoes. Now, it's not that stuff HAS to be made in America. Frankly, if we go by human rights abuses in labor and the environment, German or Canadian-made likely edges out USA-made. Still, in China, union organizers get 12 years in prison and people are virtually slaves in the factories. Add to that the absolute disregard for the environment.

In preparation for a trip, I bought some SAS pavement/indoor shoes, made in TX, which is kind of like the USA.

Today I bought some USA-made sneakers (New Balance), but also some Chinese (Merrel) off-road shoes. I'll be visiting some out-of-the-way archeological sites this summer. They fit the best. So while I am no martyr to the cause, I do think some affirmative act of good is due on my part.

So, I will donate $50 to a pro-labor or international human rights group--preferably a PAC--to sort of make up for it.

Any suggestions on which one.

Yes. The research done here has established beyond any doubt that beers brewed in different breweries actually taste different. The research is ongoing and we could use your support.
