(20,176 posts)He's only about 25' up. I've seen the ones in the trees in the forest here dive 40' to the ground, usually taking prey.
House cats too...have no problem jumping to the ground from heights up to 3 stories. Falling is a different matter, I've seen cats land bad from heights as low as 13' on a fall. The jump-depth of small cats is part of why I always find the "fireman saves cats stuck in a tree" stories funny; the housecat's usually not stuck, when he's stuck he'll let you know vocally and non-stop.

(115,836 posts)they spread their legs out to create a kind of parachute effect and slow their fall.
Maybe eventually they will evolve into something like a flying squirrel, with membranes between their legs so they can glide. That way they'll never have to worry about being stuck in trees, or on cacti.
