Teach that obnoxiously precocious little girl some proper breathing and singing techniques or is she already too much of a spoiled diva to listen to a professional?

(8,609 posts)I wish I could say so! I don't much like the very material girl. Editing to add, at least she did have the sense to take singing lessons after she realized it was her ticket!

There's something about little girls with big voices...

(4,851 posts)I mean how is she "obnoxiously precocious" and I thought her singing technique was wonderful. She is not on the marque on broadway, its the national anthem at a sporting championship. Other than the superbowl, these singers usually have a connection to the team, like the one this little girl has. she is adored in Miami and seen as something on a good luck charm for the team. I think compared to most 12 year olds, she is near the top of the singing talent pool and she did herself proud. I wish her well.

(6,795 posts)she can sing, but is a bit over the top with the hand movements....

(4,851 posts)for me, there is no such thing, but some athletes and team management take that very seriously. They don't change clothing, do the same routines and such. Its odd.
On the girl, I thought the hand movements were fairly calm. She moved her left hand up with her holding notes and increasing sound. Its very common. I did not find it over the top at all. I think I do far more "over the top" hand movements singing clapton in the shower and am so much worse than that on my air guitar.

(8,609 posts)Her voice is good. Her sliding up the scale is a vocal ' trick' that her voice is good enough to not need; and her phrasing was horrible...she took huge breaths in places she should not been breathing at all which is something that would have gotten her in trouble if she had been my voice teacher's student.

(4,851 posts)I thought that was something only paid critics did. I respect your right to your opinion on her talents, mine is that she is a wonderful girl who sings very well and I enjoyed her performance quite a bit. I suspect the vast majority of her audience likewise enjoyed the performance. And sliding up the scale is not a "trick" it is a method employed by thousands of singers and resonates well with audiences. Not every painter is rembrant, but I still look at a Bob Ross painting and find enjoyment, even if he employed "tricks". anyway, I continue to wish her the best, like I would just about any 12 year old working on her craft.

I was one of two singers for our all-original rock band.

.
I would acknowledge applause with a quiet and simple "Thanks"
rather than the kinda clichéd "Thank YOUUUUU!!!!"
.
Our lead guitarist looked at me like I was a little weird when he
noticed it the first time. I found that kinda incomprehensible.
He was one of the most laidback but HOT guitarists that I've
ever seen onstape anywhere.
.
At our next gig, he joined me by offering a quiet and simple
"Thanks" followimg his solos (that WERE phenomenal).
