(21,020 posts)of a really good actor/actress is someone who can make us believe that the character they play on TV is the real person.
Jean Stapleton will always be Edith Bunker to me.
May she RIP...
PS...Edith and Archie were somewhat exaggerated versions of my mom and her second husband.

especially in the late 80s and 90s (can't remember where off hand), but I get free "antenna TV" out here and I see her now and again. They play "All In The Family" (AITF) out here on that same station too, it's a Fox affiliate sorry to say, but hey, you can complain about Fox News all you want, but the "real" entertainment part of Fox (and not the fake part) has had (and still does have) some awesome TV shows.
Anyway (sorry for the soapbox speech), all I could ever see when I saw her play those mean roles, was the same sweet lovable dingbat she played on AITF, BUT she still had me believing she was that mean character she was playing. Come to think of it, there WAS one episode (maybe two or three) where Edith was mean, the menopause one (or something like that) was one of them. The other one, I think, was when her friend was killed or dies unexpectedly. She wasn't really mean in that one though, just mad at God.
My fave episode of all time is the one where she and Archie mistakenly were lured into doing the wild thing with this swinging couple. Hehehe, too funny.
Now, THAT'S ACTING!!!
