Ever overhear a mother or father talking to a child and instantly have a bad feeling?...

I think we've all been there. You are in a supermarket or department store when you hear a sharp angry toned voice talking to a child. You listen for a few seconds and almost immediately develop a guttural reaction that you are witnessing a small window onto the life of a troubled family. Something about the way they are scolding the child or talking down to them just puts you off immediately. It's not usually the anger so much as the condescension and ridicule in their tone that is completely improper for the age of the child being spoken to. I know one should never judge a book by its cover, I'm not a parent and have no interest in being one really, but it's hard not to sometimes.

and the adult says, "Get over here, someone is going to steal you!" Of course, then they look at ME.... as if I wanted their annoying kid! LOL

How about teaching your child how to behave in public instead of yelling and threatening him?

Loud obnoxious kids who don't know how to behave ruining everyone else's time. But when you so much as look at the parents they look back at you with a "how dare you judge me" look in their eyes. "Kids will be kids, if you are bothered by it it's because you are getting in the way kidsy 'awesome' kids".

Scene: baby store getting diapers for 1.5yo with 6yo daughter. In the back they have the diaper boxes on inclined roller shelves. So they can stock from behind. So daughter starts pushing the rows of boxes up and they fall. There are couple of people doing baby registry scanning 10 feet away. I ask daughter why when she pushes those boxes up, why they come down. She replies "the wheels?" I say "the wheels help but what makes the boxes fall down?" She thinks for a 5 count then says "gravity?" I said "yes, you're awesome!" The couple stops talking.

My daughter prefers Beakman over Bill Nye. That may be more because of Lester... Or Phil and Herb.

to adults like you who take the time to learn the best way to interact with kids. I don't have that skill (no kids) but am grateful whenever I see/hear it. I have a few younger friends with kids who just amaze me with their wisdom.
