Oi, what a night in Oklahoma City.

Lived in Oklahoma my entire life, and I've never seen anything like last night. Someone said it was like a hurricane that was spitting out tornadoes. I think that's a pretty good description. Six tornadoes, nine dead so far, flooding everywhere, we almost didn't make it home from where we had gone to take cover. Over 100,000 without power, and we are still in flood warnings. Thankfully we are not expecting any weather today. I thought it would never stop raining.

But if you look out the window this morning, it's a beautiful day, 68 degrees with a cool breeze.

Welcome, June--we've been looking forward to your arrival.

Yep, hurricanes do spit out tornadoes... but usually smaller, weaker and shorter lived than the ones that hit OK yesterday. However,

2004's Hurricane Ivan caused an outbreak of 117 tornadoes - with the bulk of the tornadoes on 17 September - which developed over a 3 day period in the United States, including 37 in Virginia, 25 in Georgia, 18 in Florida, 9 in Pennsylvania, 8 in Alabama, 7 in South Carolina, 4 in both Maryland and North Carolina, 3 in West Virginia, and 2 in Maryland. There were 26 tornadoes reported on 15 September, 32 tornadoes on 16 September, 57 tornadoes on 17 September, and 2 tornadoes (in Maryland) on 18 September. At least 8 people were killed and 17 injured by the tornadoes.

He was out to dinner when it hit and got trapped by flooding and downed trees. He had to move to a different hotel as the one where he was got flooded and is without power. I left there yesterday morning and probably would have been eating dinner with him had I stayed another day.
