There's no inherent reason why the pictures wouldn't animate once pasted into an email. Email was designed from the beginning to be purely a text medium without any semantic meaning to computers. It was only later when media became more important on the internet that emails started to use html markup for formatting and attachments were added. There's no standard out there that says an email client has to render HTML markup in the email or display the attached images, in fact a lot don't. The reason the pictures aren't moving in your case is that the email client is only displaying the first frame of the GIF. It's also possible that it's doing do to prevent any possible code injection type attacks that might be able to be launched through the image.
