(11,785 posts)She'd always say, "Let me tell you just one thing about..." The idea that I would only have one opportunity to see a movie or read a book for the first time and didn't want to squander that experience meant nothing to her. Then again, she often read the ends of books first, so she could choose not to read the book if the ending was sad.

(1,846 posts)I avoid reviews, anything with the word "spoiler", then BAM! Someone just blabs with no warning.
For the first time, I'm seriously considering putting someone on "ignore".

the choices they make and I'm always looking at the background for clues. This is easier to do when I know where the story is going.
So I would love to see the link of the post where someone dropped a spoiler.

(1,846 posts)Since the spoiler is the the OP line, it's impossible to not see it. It's not like it was a total surprise, but I was really enjoying not knowing for sure.

(46,725 posts)I saw the movie last night. Before I saw the movie I was okay with spoilers. AFTER I saw the movie I thought, "Gee, if I had seen a spoiler it would have ruined it for me."
Though, I also agree with Mr. Scorpio's point. What they did was a cheap way to steer us away from truth. Though the actor did a superb job.

(1,846 posts)but posting it as an OP title was not necessary and, well, kinda mean.
Still looking forward to seeing the film, as clearly, I like Benedict Cumberbatch; I'm hoping that wasn't the only spoiler...

(6,154 posts)By a plot reveal. Wouldn't matter much what you told me about No country for old men, Godfather, There will be blood, Fargo, etc... They would still have turned out to be some of my favourite films.
For films that are more just entertainment, where the plot is almost everything I agree, these films can be ruined. But then I almost always find these types of films easy to forget anyway, they are fun light hearted and don't leave much of a mark either way.
Just my 2 cents.

(7,699 posts)because often my husband wants to share something we have already seen,
and what he does is pause the play constantly, so as to then verbally reveal
what is about to happen.............unbelievable, but true.
We called him out on it a few weeks ago when some friends came to catch
up on Game of Thrones. He didn't seem to 'get it'. Argh. Also, we get
tired of needing two hours to watch a one hour show.

(3,220 posts)Did you ever see the 'Snape Kills Dumbledore" video? That's where it's from. Someone does a drive by spoiler for people waiting outside in a line to get the book. Not nice!
Also, I never read, nor do I give a shit about Harry Potter.

(28,941 posts)I can see another performance of Hamlet even though I know that at the end there'll be bodies all over the place. Further, anyone who was interested in the latest Trek film knew at least a year ago who the villain would be.
A spoiler alert should always be posted for those people who can't stand a reveal -- common curtsey.
I disagree with Mr Scorpio. He forgot about or didn't see Serenity.
