If these lyrics were written by an adult today, and became a hit, what would be the outrage factor?

(115,103 posts)This, though: "You better run for your life if you can, little girl. ... If I catch you with another man, that's the end, little girl."
But they changed, because later...
"I used to be cruel to my woman
I beat her and kept apart from the things that she loved
Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene
And I'm doing the best that I can"
Anyway I sincerely doubt that singing about how teenage girls are sexy/enticingly gullible would get any musician or group in trouble. There seems to be universal agreement that such subjects are acceptable. Even singing about their fuckable moms is A-OK.
Date rape lyrics, different story.
Things seem to be getting better. Albeit very, very slowly.

(72,300 posts)What he is saying today is not the words he was singing
"Put Molly all up in her champagne, she ain't even know it, I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain't even know it," he raps on the track released in January. It gained traction in recent weeks after women's groups and rape victims issued petitions.
Don't try to sell me that line of bull crap!
Anything that is endorsed by Rick Ross ... I WILL NOT BUY!

(13,324 posts)Not to mention the rather bizarre hypocrisy of being a former prison guard who now raps about being a drug lord.

(13,324 posts)The Beatles, after all, were only in their early 20's at the time. Whereas Kip Winger was several years older than that when his own "Seventeen" song was released.

A puttin' me down as a rock-and-roll clown
Wang dang, what a sweet poontang
A shakin' my thang as a rang-a-dang-dang in the bell
Down on the street you know she can't be beat
She's so sweet when she yanks on my meat

(41,991 posts)He knew who was coughing up their lunch money to buy those records. Not a lot of teens buy records about mature and dignified women. And he got the older crowd too, because thirty year olds do lust after teens and recall their own youth fondly. A win for Chuck!

Of course, the fundies would whine about the perceived sexuality, just as they did when the song was released the first time. Fundies never change.

(54,084 posts)Of course the acceptable age for going out dancing is a lot older.... mostly because of what rockers like Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, the Fab Four, and Abba's lecherous leading men do to 16 year olds. They have only themselves to blame.
(of course no one tops Steve Tyler for sheer debauchery)
