Parents who dash into the clinic frantically asking me to treat their baby's "fever". The baby will have a temperature of 98.9 - not a fever.

Or there are some mothers who bring their 5 year-old boys in for a genital examination. They're just sure there's something wrong with their equipment. I don't know what it is about some mothers that they're worried their boys won't grow up to become award-winning mattress commandos. I've had to tell anxious mothers that there's nothing wrong with their little angels.

And then there are parents who smoke around their children. But that's another story. And the General Discussion Edition had a very ugly ending...

Parents were patients.
It they continue to smoke they are destined to become patients again.

Have a rewarding day at the clinic today.

Have you any idea how many patients I have with COPD and asthma? They come in with an O2 Sat of 91%, coughing and rasping. "Doc, I can't figure out why I can't breathe!"

"Still smoking a pack a day?"

"Yeah."

"Okay, I think we're on to something here."

I'll give them a nebulizer treatment, instructions on cutting down their cigarette consumption, nicotine patches if they have insurance, and info on smoking cessation programs. After that, the ball is in their court.

Some people don't have them or don't have good ones they can go to to say "Honey, it's okay. That shit happens all the time."

But I'm nervously eying my schedule for this afternoon. It's starting to fill up...

Friday afternoons tend to be hectic.

When I worked in the clinic, I developed the bladder capacity of a Winnebago septic system.....

I would drown a murderer if peed on them. As Gramps would say, like a cow peeing on a flat rock.......
