I guess it's a new smell the cat has to get used to.
From experience, though, I've seen my cat act jealous upon his first encounter with a baby (my nephew, way back then). He stopped in his tracks, just stared at the new addition to the family, then turned tail between legs and walked as if he were stomping off in a huff.
...stop. There's nothing better than baby pictures.
