I just opened a box for the first time in a year, and something the size of a lollypop fell out.
I have a feeling this has been going on for years, because this not the first time I've noticed this. I do know this has been happening to other items long enough for Mad magazine to joke about it back in the '70s already, but these Dove bars seem to have lost half their size.
Or is it me?
Edited for typo in the subject line.

(4,243 posts)I bought a box of them about 6 or 7 months ago because I was craving them. I opened the box only to find out how small they were and ended up eating the whole box.

(3,065 posts)that a half gallon of ice cream is only about three pints?
The price is the same, though.

... don't have to raise prices.

Think about it... 10 years ago, the same items that you find today in dollar stores
were also a dollar back then.
.
Why and how?
.
Deflation.
.
Decreased product size/volume.

I got the Dove bars wrapped in white chocolate recently as a splurge treat and was
disappointed. I remember Dove bars as good enough to be classified as orgasmic.
.
These? Not so much... and I LOVE white chocolate.

elleng
(130,893 posts)that your lack of orgasm was due to white chocolate, but I can't say that in light of your LOVE for white chocolate, just that
DAMN, MFM, you have BAD TASTE!

(6,261 posts)And that was some 40 years ago already. I have the entire collection on CD, I'll have to see if I can find that cartoon.

Waxier. Less creamy and chocolatey.
You're right. They're not the orgasmic treat they used to be. I am more distressed about the degradation of quality. It seems to be happening to all our food.

(6,261 posts)Now that you mention, the taste was a disappointment too...
These changes are all so gradual, we barely notice,

(10,237 posts)MFM has the right answer =shrink the size don't raise the price ( too drastically ) now you have to buy 3 boxes to make up for the
lost size .

(6,261 posts)I used to drive between El Paso to LA on a fairly regular basis. I remember those blue on yellow billboards every few miles trying to build up anticipation. Of course when you get there, it's just a gift shop with a dopey museum out back.
I drove that way a couple of years ago. There didn't seem to be as many billboards as before.
It's just like Wall Drug in either South or North Dakota.
The Thing is.... I remember nothing of that museum whatsoever.
Kali
(55,007 posts)(which is best experienced with herbal or other enhancements) now the gift shop is mostly doublewide decor rather than the hilarious kitsch it used to be.
and back in the day they had a pretty good local grill - good greasy cheeseburgers and the coldest beer in the state. now it just a DQ and 24 hour gas pumps. and gas is cheaper 15 miles west at the Circle Ks in Benson.

What they failed to tell you was that it was due to 30% less product.
