(3,469 posts)It always makes me smile. We had to leave our home last year due to an earthquake/broken pipe flood fiasco and I had "help me if you can I've got to get back to the house at pooh corner..." as my ringtone during the disaster, while we were waiting for repairs.

(3,469 posts)Thank you. It really really sucked. I said it was last year but it was actually August 2011. Almost two years but it seems like yesterday. That freak east coast earthquake broke a water pipe in the condo above ours and destroyed our walls, ceiling, cabinets, carpeting-pretty much everything. Then we were evacuated to a motel and three days later had to evacuate that for a hurricane. Then our condo association started lying to us and jerking us around on the repairs for MONTHS. We ended up with an almost completely remodeled condo but it was awful. We sold it and bought a motorhome and now we're just traveling around for a few years.
Wow, sorry to tell you my life story like that. I hardly ever talk about this because it still makes me cry but sometimes when I get started, the whole story just pours out. Thanks for the kind thoughts though. We're in a good place now.

(38,326 posts)Maybe it would be if I tried really hard, but mine wasn't a flying Jesus doll beaten with a stick -- it was thrown crockery, knives raised in anger, and a grandpa taking a crying grandma home before Christmas diner was served.
Others were too drunk to drive and they knew enough not to, so they just crashed anywhere. Mostly their aim was good when they crawled to the bathroom to puke. Now that's a polite house guest!
Crying grandma was probably the only "normal" person in our Addams family household but nobody else saw it that way. Everyone just figured grandma had some kind of nervous disorder. Sectarian violence is a normal part of any Christmas celebration, right? You all know Christ wasn't born in December and Christmas trees are pagan? Right?
I always wanted a novice level HAM radio or a computer for Christmas but I never got one.
Later I discovered the interenet. After that I had no regrets about those Christmas wishes I was never granted. Now I have a supercomputer under my desk connected to a world wide web.
In your dreams, Santa!
