(BTW, according to my state conservation agency, that was a puppy.

When we saw one (fully-grown) in our pasture, only fifty yards from our house, and video-taped it, we showed the video to a local conservation agency. He was too lazy to investigate our sighting, and didn't want to get people excited about a big cat in the vicinity, so he proclaimed it to be a dog. Ever since that, we've been very confused about what cats and dogs look like..... The agent was probably a Republican.)

Someone may have been keeping one, and it escaped. There were reports of sightings of one in a neighborhood near where I used to live, and a man living there had a photo published in the local paper showing claw marks in a tree in his yard. In IN, it is legal to keep exotic animals; but you must have a license, and the license stipulates that you must report it if the animal escapes.

I watched it for nearly fifteen minutes, while it walked across eighty yards of open pasture, then sat, looking down the hill. It had a feline tail, a definite feline snout, walked like a feline, sat like a feline. No dog I've ever seen or heard of was that large or that muscular. No doubt at all it was a cat.

I'm just saying how it could be that the cat came to be there. Those who say it is impossible are wrong. There are more exotic animals being kept in captivity than we realize.

I saw one come out of a Juniper bush when I was a kid and walking to the bus stop. Everyone on the bus could see it later, going through the tumble weeds out of Palmdale, Ca.
