The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI need new friends.
I'm all excited about this Higgs Boson thing and all my FB friends are posting that Hallmarkian Sappy Crappy 'The sun can't rise without your stupid face' shit.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The vast majority of my friends live here, in Arizona, where education is considered an inconvenience and intellectual curiosity is the devil's work.
Higgs Boson, Pi Day and Einstein's birthday...and I'm reading posts about women that don't exist but are apparently empowered by daisies and sunsets. Oh, and I have come to the conclusion that I am the only woman in freakin' Arizona that doesn't need to feel 'empowered' by stupid internet pics. (The exceptions to this are obvious here at DU )
I'm going home, hugging my iMac (Albert) and killing stupid computer generated ickies. Lots of them.

(8,492 posts)My friends really aren't that shallow when I'm talking at their faces, but when they get on FB it's as if some evil internet creature has sucked the smart out of their brains. Then again, conversations with my closest friends usually end with them saying, "You're giving me a headache", so maybe it's me.

(2,173 posts)The response I got pretty much made it clear it was the wrong venue for such conversations: "Didn't they go extinct like a hunderd years ago or something?"

Tombstone? Nah I'm being cremated
Tattoo on my ass? Nah I would subject anyone to that
I'll keep thinking about that one.

Americans dream of gypsies, I have found
And gypsy knives and gypsy thighs
That pound and pound and pound
And African appendages that
Almost reach the ground
And little boys playin' baseball
In the rain.

(28,394 posts)Even though I didn't understand a lot of it! I was amazed that they could find something so miniscule in such a gigantic contraption. (Now I probably sound like a dunce. I never took physics.)
I don't have any FB friends because I don't have time for that crap. LOL

BTW, I didn't know you were a woman! Are you a scientist?
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)...tried explaining it to me when I was about 8 (40 years ago), so I've always been fascinated. Although, he would put his Christian slant on it by saying even if the HB did exist...God made it. I have no opinion on that. The majority of humans probably feel like dunces (including me) when it comes to the HB. CNN actually had the most easily understood article, so far.
No, I'm not a scientist, I'm a graphic artist. I'm just a knowledge geek. The closest I get to science IRL is when my computer crashes and I try to figure out why. After about 10 minutes, I give up and ask the boss. I used to love technology, but it's moving a lot faster than I can.

(55,008 posts)although when DU had a glitch the other day I did and found the feed store has a page now. This is hilarious to me as the owner is pretty low tech - had a black dial phone until the place burned down a couple years ago and didn't take plastic either.
His kids started the page, I am pretty sure. He is more into chem trails and UFOs - always fun to stop by and get him started.

(8,492 posts)The first time she posted something on chem trails I thought she was kidding. She wasn't. It blew my mind that I was friends with someone who believed in them. The crazy keeps coming with her, too. She'll post the oddest stuff from the most bizarre sites.
