... most of my adult life and, except for one who could tolerate about 20-30 seconds of a
belly rub before she would give me a non-painful but serious warning grab... they all loved
gentle bellyrubs.
.
Except for Graycat. She had been abused by her owner's roommate (what an ASSHOLE!!!)
and couldn't tolerate contact of any sort. I was patient with her and sometimes I could ease
up behind her and skritch her head for about 10 seconds before she realized that she was
being "touched" and dart off. That was it... until I had had her for about two years.
.
One day, I was sitting on the couch watching TV and she walked over on the cushions and
plopped down -- leaning AGAINST me. She allowed me to gently skritch her head and neck --
though that was as much contact as she could ever tolerate. We sat like that, sometimes
for hours, quite often after that.
.
I was so happy for her and I can't say that I didn't feel an enormous sense of accomplishment.
