We just love it. Then strawberry season...then blackberries and blueberries.

it is about to get really good! I hope to get my lettuce, beet and greens seedlings into the garden within the next few weeks.

or maybe she liked the odd odor! My dog loves broccoli but to me it doesn't smell good while it's cooking.

I also end up smelling really bad after eating it.

And chicken and turkey and fish and Chinese food and garlic and a few other things.

Anyway, I look forward to growing my own sprouts again. Bean...radish...alfalfa...etc.

And having salads with lots of fresh vegies and sprouts.

even harvested it. Too many people said it would be bitter tasting. I think it will come back this yearand I will use it if I can figure out how to!!

I'm talking about the rhubarb - not the asparagus

The rhubarb is super easy.

I buy several stalks. Wash, trim off any leaves (they are poisonous!) and then cut the stalks into approx. 1 to 2 inch pieces.

I use a large pot for cooking. Place the pieces in the pot, add a small amount of water, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to simmer and let cook until all the pieces are softened. Stir from time to time.

Add sugar. I don't measure it, and I always seem to get the right amount to sweeten it just enough. It's best to add the sugar while the sauce is still hot so the sugar will dissolve.

It's good hot, or chilled. I've never had bitter results. It can be tart but I like that.

I've never made it into pies.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Beets are a great polarizer. I'm on the "they taste like dirt" side of the divide.

not the ones that have been in the ground for weeks.
Funny story (at least to me)
Many years ago I had a large garden & just had picked & consumed a very large quantity of the baby beets.
The next day I had a physical, which I had forgotten about. The nurse asked me if I had a history of diabetes in my family. Apparently the sugar level in my urine sample was off the charts. I explained what had happened, came back a couple of days later & everything was normal. If you've only eaten the big ones give the babies a try. The difference is like night & day.

3 pints for $5 and they have been wonderful! My husband refused to buy more though - strawberries every day for two weeks is more than he can handle.
