Inception
30 Minutes or Less
Kick-Ass
I believe the last movie I saw at the theater was Expendables II...tried to get away to see the Hobbit but never found the time.

(21,925 posts)the surprisingly good and under-rated horror movie Dagon (probably the best adaptation of HP Lovecraft) on Youtube, and the 1936 under-rated sequel to Dracula, Dracula's Daughter last Saturday night on TV.
The last movie I saw in a theater was nearly 10 years ago, Fahrenheit 911. I can't get away to see a movie because I'm a full-time caregiver for my mom who has Alzheimer disease.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)mostly its just the time. This year I plan on going at least three times, Iron Man III, Man of Steel, and Kick Ass 2. And, I'm sorry about your mom, I know it must be hard.

(60,021 posts)We did see the Hobbit, but it was a the next to latest one we saw....Lincoln was five star to us.
Nice to see you, broken hero!
Last three movies watched....
Chicken with Plums - which we enjoyed - **** (out of 5)
Incendies - a remarkable film that is not an easy watch - **** (out of 5)
Another Year - which we simply loved - ***** (out of 5)
__________________________________________________
A few recent attempts which don't count because we turned them off without finishing them
we tried The Master... didn't even get half through - * 1/2 (out of 5, generously)
And in between Netflix DVDs, we watched one of our daughter's DVDs - Meet Joe Black - which we disliked on so many levels it is hard to know where to begin - 1/2 star out of 5, because...well, because it is a movie, and had Anthony Hopkins in it!
______________________________________________________
we don't go to the movies much these days - all those awful noisy ads they run in advance....people with cell phones....and the smell of rancid butter!
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)I despise that movie...the best part of that movie is when....spoiler(just in case)
when Pitt gets hit by those cars, that was funny, the rest of the movie was....garbage, I can't believe Hopkins agreed to do this film. I wasted damn near three hours watching this, hell this movie makes the Postman look good. I thought about getting the Master but I shy away from movies that I have never heard of(I heard of it Oscar night). And nice to see you around too :hugs:

(60,021 posts)I know it is art, and there is no disrespect meant to the many many people who do love the movie - our two girls included. One of the great things about music, movies, art - hits us differently for different reasons.
Actually, there is a point in Joe Black where Pitt and Hopkins stare at each other for, say, an hour (so it seems) and all I could think of is Larry David when he does the stare thing in Curb Your Enthusiasm!

(59,305 posts)my sister in law and a good friend of mine love the Twilight series, and I've had to live by my mantra of "Its not for me" when I"m around them.

(12,132 posts)We enjoyed it. Before that at the theaters we saw Jack the Giant Slayer, A Good Day to Die Hard and Warm Bodies.
On Blu-ray recently: Expendables II
Most of the theater movies I saw for free as we had a lot of coupons. I wasn't mad at any of them for free.

(12,132 posts)Not great but good. See it at matinee prices. It's too short for full price. My daughter kept poking me in the ribs because I kept whispering loudly "ZOMBIE!" the first couple of times Jack came on screen. (He was the star zombie of Warm Bodies). I liked seeing Ian McShane and Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci - they made it worth it to me as I love all them.
Not gonna win academy awards but entertaining enough for me and mine. I laughed fairly often and that's all I was hoping for.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)I like McGregor and Singer isn't bad either.

(28,945 posts)Sky Fall
Hot Fuzz
How To Train Your Dragon
The Hobbit
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)I was hoping they would release that in a box set with Craigs other bond films. How to Train your Dragon was better than I thought it would be and I regretted not seeing it sooner.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)my friend bought a blu-ray box set of every Bond film and they included a cardboard space-holder for Skyfall.
In and of itself that is not an interesting story. But the funny part is that my friend was convinced he had the actual movie before it was even released to theaters. I told him to go home and check again -actually pull it out of the set and look in it and he came back to work the next day and sadly reported it was just a place holder.
Skyfall was a GREAT movie. But I have to admit I am totally biased in favor of all things Double Aught Seven.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)but I haven't watched it yet cause I heard it ties into Casino Royale, which I don't have yet. So I hoped they would do a blu ray trilogy release, but they didn't. So I'm probably going to buy casino, quantum(again) and Skyfall when taxes get in. I just got the Brosnan ones about a month ago, for about 12 bucks on dvd, and I figure Craig would do a better job.
sharp_stick
(14,400 posts)I might just buy that on Blu-Ray when I get a chance.

(14,400 posts)Despicable Me (VUDU rental) - Damned funny, might have to take the kiddos to the theater for part 2
The Reanimator (Netflix) - Can't go wrong with Stuart Gordon
Captain America (Netflix) - Silly fun
Lincoln - we try to see at least a few of the Oscar nominees if we can get away and this was the last we got to for this crop.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)I watched Despicable me for the first time late last year, and it was pretty damn good and will probably see part 2(definately getting the dvd). I haven't seen the reanimator in years, and Capt America was a solid one, let son watch it the other day.
I'll probably get Lincoln when it hits dvd.
ZombieHorde

I just love it when Dr. Hill has his headless body carry his head around in a tray. It must have been a lot of fun to actually make.

(6,253 posts)My last three movies:
Roberta (1935) with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Irene Dunne and Randolph Scott
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957) and The Sundowners (1960) -- a Deborah Kerr / Robert Mitchum double feature
In the theatre:
Silver Linings Playbook -- we've been planning to see Jack the Giant Slayer and Oz, but it was a busy weekend.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)she is starting to like Jennifer Lawrence a lot nowdays(she is a hunger games fan).
Staph
(6,253 posts)The characters in The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook are so very different. She's not in Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren territory, but I think that she will have a nice, long career.
Call Me Wesley
(38,187 posts)Latest three movies I've seen:
Django Unchained
Lincoln
The Dark Knight Rises
Last in the movie theatre:
120 Days Of Sodom (Pasolini)
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)Was there a 60 Days of Sodom first? Not sure I'm ready for 120 days....
Call Me Wesley
(38,187 posts)Actually, the people started to leave after twenty minutes, and in the end, it was mainly just me left. But as I had much interest in Pier Paolo Pasolini, I watched it through the very end. I have watched it since with more understanding of what he tried to achieve, and I think he did achieve it.

(29,047 posts)The book is great too. I don't generally suggest either to anyone.

(72,790 posts)Too much politics involved. It was nice to see Marty Scorsese finally win an Oscar, but The Departed wasn't his best work. His win was almost a lifetime achievement.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Last one I saw at the theater was Parental Guidance. The bookends were with the ok_kids. Two in the middle were late-night Netflix redux.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)I missed that one in the theater and picked it up the first day it was out. Not as good as UP or Wall-E but it was no slouch.

Stand Your Ground(terrible)
Beasts of the Southern Wild. Excellent. Could have won an Oscar if there isn't so much competition this year.

Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)I still need to get Avatar on blu ray, heard the extended version is a bit better. I can't watch F/911 anymore it just hurts to watch, and BrokeBack is still a solid film, its a shame it didn't win best picture that year(I think Crash won and that was, meh).
HeiressofBickworth
(2,682 posts)(forgot the name) a Chinese movie about the beginning of the communist revolution
(forgot the name) a documentary about German officials who resisted Nazis
Lore - a German/Australian production about children just after the demise of Hitler
At the theater: Emperor -- a Tommy Lee Jones movie about the immediate post-war period in Japan. Good movie but I don't seen any award nominations in its future.

Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)He has all their shorts, and almost all of their movies and I took him to see the new Stooges at the theater. I knew that since he was such a homer for the Stooges that he would be extremely biased about the casting choices, and to my surprise he loved the movie. I think the casting was pretty good, the only one I had any concern of was the fellow playing Moe(cause Moe is my fave), and that kid knocked it out of the park.
mrmpa
(4,033 posts)Argo
Alex Cross
Flight
Last one I saw at the theater was Valkarie with Tom Cruise.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)Alex Cross? How was that one, I have a hard time with Tyler Perry movies.
mrmpa
(4,033 posts)I wasn't sure I could handle Tyler Perry as Alex Cross, but he did well. If you've read some of Patterson's older books with Alex Cross as the hero, then this movie does well.
It is a varied list of films. I entirely liked Argo, and I didn't like Flight. Now for the piece 'd resistance, when Perks of being a Wallflower is listed as being on sale, on demand I will rent it. One of the reasons I will rent it is because it was filmed in the township next to mine.
Broken_Hero
(59,305 posts)I need to get Perks of a Wildflower, it came out at a week or two ago.
