I go with store brands or smaller label when I can. No sense paying for advertising budgets. talkingmime Mar 2013 #5

Mostly just a play on words. I suck at miming. I can do the wall thing, but that's about it. talkingmime Mar 2013 #7

going at my house. I don't have a cat myself, but I keep a litter box and Meow Mix on hand for when the neighbor cat visits. BTW, I have a 65 lb. dog. They get alone fine.

So if you're in the neighborhood, send the little guy over for Meow Mix.

I learned long ago that even with a coupon for a name brand you usually get a better deal by paying the list price on the store brand. There only a handful of name brands I still prefer over store/small products.

But even then you may be contributing to a mega corporation without realizing it. At least half of the papertowels and toiletpaper brands in that row are subsidiaries of Koch now. Nestle owns a frightening range of products. I won't knowingly buy from either for ethical reasons.

As for Bumble Bee, I don't eat any kind of meat, including fish, but I will buy an occasional can of tuna for the cats and chipped turkey or something for the dogs. They're built to be carnivores and they love the treats. While humans have the teeth structure of omnivores, our digestive tracts aren't particularly well suited for meat consumption. Still, the critters love the stuff and aren't well suited for vegetarian diets so personal ethics aside, I still buy it for them. Maybe that's why they're constantly seeking us out for petting and hugging. They know who hands out the treats.

Very thoughtful comment.

Are you interested in miming? or is that just a user name...by any other name?

I asked because I have a signed Marcel Marceau pencil sketch from 1972 when he visited a restaurant in Chicago. One of my favorite pieces for sure.
