The DU Lounge

I saw it when it first came out and thought it was pretty boring and dumb. I think it was because of all the hype and reviews I read I thought it would be better.
It's been running on the movie channels lately and I recorded it and have been laughing my ass off watching it.
Weird.

(29,414 posts)How does it compare to Rock'n'Roll High School?

(5,909 posts)Speaking of The Ramones, I recorded a documentary from 2004 the other day--Ramones Raw. End of the Century was better. Thanks for acknowledging my screen name.

(29,414 posts)But how many DUers remember Riff and the rest of the movie
("I hate mousework!"
I'll have to look for that documentary. I remember seeing the documentary "X" in the theater back when it came out

No offense to DUers, it's just an old movie. Last week I watched "The Last 24 Hours of Sid Vicious" on (I think) Current tv. It was good. My first boyfriend wore his traditional padlock necklace, but would put it on in the car after talking with my parents when he would pick me up.

They laughed and laughed and laughed...
My wife and I were dumbfounded and bored.
I think maybe it's a generational thing.
Are you suggesting I try it again?

(5,909 posts)Maybe I'm getting more immature as I get older. My husband still thinks it's dumb and shakes his head at me giggling over it, and we usually have the same taste in movies.
Good to see you Rev!

(12,008 posts)A friend of mine observed that it's "Mormon humor" which I'd never heard of, but other people have confirmed this to me. I guess that just means that there are some damn funny Mormons - or maybe I think it's funny for the wrong reasons.

(28,552 posts)... initially, you will either like it or find it dumb or boring. Subsequent viewings often make it seem better, can't exactly say why. The humor is subtle and sometimes cringeworthy, but in the end the movie comes off endearing in a strange sort of way.
That said, this is no comedic masterpiece by any stretch, just a solid "indie" movie IMHO.

(100,085 posts)For the school talent show he dressed up like Napoleon Dynamite and did the dance from the end of the movie. It was pretty hilarious.

(12,132 posts)I love Napolean Dynamite. I'd vote for Pedro. I never pass up a person eating them that I don't say "You gonna eat your tots?"
And my daughter and I both order "kaysa dillas" on purpose.
