There's a small creek adjacent to my office and this fine bird has a penthouse in one of the trees. She obliged me with a few poses as she was waking up this morning.

(2,173 posts)Around here we mostly get red-tail hawks and eagles, occasionally falcons. There are a lot of turkey vultures and MAN are they ugly up close! Just wait until your hawk's chicks hatch. That will be fun to watch.

(19,375 posts)I'll keep an eye on the nest for the chicks and try to get some shots.

(2,173 posts)I don't like when my critters are killed. The falcons have a taste for morning doves. I know that's what they do for a living but it's disturbing to watch. It comes with the territory. Sometimes they even look at our littlest dog a bit sideways. I don't think they could snag her, but it does bother me. One of the eagles could easily snatch her. Those things are HUGE! We mostly get goldens around here but I've seen a few bald and they're bigger (especially the females).

(19,375 posts)Guy we bought herb from way back in the day had a pair of them that he kept in his house. Was quite a trip to have a little buzz on and look up to see those two staring at you

(998 posts)This beauty had a wing span of at least 4 feet. She was keeping our ground squirrels from enjoying their breakfast. *gulp.
