I'm home. I feel pretty good. I'm able to function/take care of myself/enjoy things again.

Last Sunday (Feb 17), I went to the ER via ambulance. I was a pretty sick puppy --
unable to cross the room without gasping/gulping/fighting for breath and holding off
the dry heaves. Turns out I was back in A-fib (atrial fibrillation) and my heart was
beating somewhat spasmodically at between 120-140 beats per minute (so I wasn't
getting enough oxygen to function).

I also had a constant nonproductive window-rattling cough.

They eased my symptoms pretty quickly, but the problem was still there. They started
me on an IV drug that stood a pretty good chance of converting my heart back into
what's called normal sinus rhythm (the lub-dub stuff) at a slower pace. They also
pumped me full of a drug that let me pee out excess fluid (I'm pretty sure I peed
bigger than myself). It's worked before twice, but also failed twice before. They gave
it two days, but it failed again this time (though the cough almost disappeared and
I was able to cough up a lot of the congestion, finally).

They also did yet ANOTHER installment in my penile reduction surgeries ("A penis like
this", said the surgeon, "you don't reduce all at once."

They decided to go the shock paddle route again (worked twice in the past). This is
a little more risky (though not to your Fucking Immortal Working Boy) and very, very
unpleasant (it's the CLEAR!!! thing you see on TV), so they gave me drugs that put
me in a suggestive dreamstate (OK, OK -- now you know why I look forward to these
episodes). It worked.

It worked so well that, not only was I back in normal sinus rhythm, my heart had slowed
to 60 beats per minute -- a rate I haven't had since before my heart problems started
5 years ago or more now. I was happy. I was excited.

It lasted a day-and-a-half. I slipped back into what's called A-flutter -- steady beat
but at between 100-110 beats per minute -- better, but not optimal. My heart doesn't
have enough time to contract and expand fully so, although I get enough oxygen, it
would be nicer to get more.

I can still get around easily and function fairly normally and feel pretty damned good,
though -- so I'm taking what I can get. I never DID do things the easy way.

Thank you so very, VERY much for all the support and vibes and affection/love that
you've expressed -- this time and time and time again in the past. You have no idea
how much that means to me and how much it helps. Consider yourselves a part of
my healthcare providers.

It's good to be home. I just did some online grocery shopping (including some ham
hocks to make split pea soup with) and took an HUGE roast out of the freezer to
make a yummy, yummy pot roast with. It's a good thing I've always loved cooking --
it's hard to eat a truly low-sodium diet unless you cook a lot from scratch.

Thank you again. I hope to repay your kindnesses in one of the few ways left to
me -- by brightening your days a little bit with what I find (and warp) on the
Intertubes.

I hope that you continue to recover well and avoid these episodes in the future. Take care of yourself. But you did make me hungry! 
BTW, the black tomcat that went missing the day before the Super Bowl never came back home. 
My only solace was the night before I got to play with him and rub the belly after he got a good whiff of catnip. When I lived in Irving, the father and mother cats were two strays that I took in when the mother had broken her hip. There were four kittens born on April 27, 2011 and now my "family" is down to one female calico--my lap kitteh and one of the few things that makes me smile and laugh.
While the black cat stayed outside during the daytime, when he did show up the two cats performed the grooming rituals all of the time. After all, that fur tastes delicious!
Right now I'm not in the financial position to take on another cat so I'm trying to spend extra time playing with the calico. I spent most of my life in apartments and working so I was always reluctant to take in a pet. I brought in the parent cats when I broke my arm in 2010 and was on disability for a couple of months and had time to spend with them. When I returned back to work I was only there for about 3 months before I became unemployed. I looked after the parents because it was an extremely cold winter--there was a foot of snow on one occasion in Irving. The following spring the mama cat had her kittens in my apartment.
There are other cats in the neighborhood, but the calico hisses at them and prefers to remain indoors with me. She is small so I'm her protector. If my situation changes, then I'll consider getting her a companion. I do feel sad for her though since she has lost her family which is pretty much the same situation I'm dealing with in my personal life due to some grudges that my siblings hold against me.
I'll keep an eye out for your posts--they do give me an opportunity to laugh and brighten up my day.
Hope the surgeons are keeping an eye to posterity...some of us would be very,...interested. 
So glad you're home from the hospital....but ham hocks, on a sodium restricted diet?

My husband would be a tad bit peeved if I were assigned the bed bath team but I'm good to go on the rest...
