Navigating DU

Apart from the whackjobs in the Lounge ( ), most DUers probably surf GD.

And to REALLY stay on top of things there you have to be there A LOT. I know from personal experience that just coming back after a sleep period it takes a helluva lotta work just to catch up.

I don't want to post a poll, but I'm just asking: How do you surf DU?

1. starting from the latest threads to the greatest

as teh hot for everyone to enjoy.

2. When I log on to DU

First I look at the "My Posts" tab if anyone has responded to any of my posts.

Next I go to the "My Subscriptions" tab to see if there are any new posts in the places where I subscribe.

Then I go to the Home Page and read there.

Then go to the Latest page to see what's new.

Then go to the Lounge and get caught up there.

After that I go between the Latest Threads page and The Lounge and just hit refresh.

3. Interesting that you don't go to GD

For me, GD is my go-to forum. Mostly because it picks up latest news and discussion of that news.

If I have a thread that makes it I may do a vanity look, but other than that I never look there.

My brain is more awake in am, So I scan the above catagories, mark out things to catch later in the day.

Lounge and subscriptions in afternoon
another scan of the am threads in afternoon, early evening
GD maybe once a day, a quick glance to see if I have missed anything important
Meta....very very rarely

I also use the key word block function, which has cleaned up GD a lot fo rme.

I surf a bit on the net but leave DU open for check backs.
I have found that almost all the news of the day is posted on DU pretty quickly.

Just to see what's hawt. Then, LBN, because if it's happened, it's going to be there, then Politics and GD. More and more I make sure to visit the Lounge, which I think is the sanest forum on DU. When I'm feeling masochistic, I drop in on Meta, but rarely ever post there. If I've posted a bit recently I sometimes remember to check My Posts. Usually I don't post a whole lot so it slips my mind, which is kind of rude of me, although it's not intentional.

14. I have bookmarks to all the places I check

LBN, GD, Politics, Meta and Lounge. I drop by half a dozen others occasionally like science and genealogy.

Majority of the time is on my phone so easy to hop around.
