I've had to cut my hair out of a round brush, but never had a curling iron burn it off.

I'm sure that her age she believes this to be a tragedy.
It seems to me, though (and I'm an older guy who shaves his head, so what the hell do I know), that a decent hairdresser can tune up her hair in very short order.
Not only will it appear as though nothing ever happened, it will probably be a better look for her.

Now a libertarian would say she had it coming and she should had known better.
