wouldn't eat on game day so by 8PM he would be hungry and mad
Once asked if he would throw at his grandmother Gibby said "yes - if she dug in on me."
Got hit in the shin with a line drive early in the game, yet finished the game. Found out later the leg had been broken.

I've heard opposing hitters talk about him with a mixture of outright hatred and almost religious reverence because he was a mean junkyard dog when it came to brushing hitters back from the plate.

THat was a real heartbreaker for Cardinals fans

I also remember him doing a commercial for "Primatine Mist" inhalers.
"That's right-- I do have bronchial asthma."
