Confession: I really, really like ...

Psy, the Korean rapper of Gangnam Style fame. Many of his other works are on YT, and a few for purchase on iTunes or Amazon.

The guy is pretty good, strong stage presence and, similar to other musicians who catch the public eye, he knows how to promote himself.

So, confess, what artist do you like that you might not want to tell the world about.

That reminds me...

I bought an ABBA CD and loaded it onto my Shuffle. I went to the college for a run and about 20-30 football players were doing some kind of drills while I was running around the track to Dancing Queen.

I can't think of anyone I wouldn't want to own up to. Of course, that could be because Placido Domingo is amongst my favorites.

My metal friends freak out when I play Bee Gees or some obscure bluegrass band but I don't give a shit. I missed out on a lot of good music in my youth because I cared what my friends thought. Now I have fewer assholes for friends so I don't care who knows what I like.

I have Cyndi Lauper and Cannibal Corpse. Lady Gaga and Led Zeppelin and Wolves in the Throne room right along with Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys and Buddy Holly and Chopin and Beethoven and Enya and The Louvin Brothers and Hank Sr and Hank III (but fuck Jr).

I like NWA, Wu-Tang, Louis Logic and Talib Kweli among others.

I have Rammstein and and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Godflesh and Carcass and Raffi. (Hey, Banana Phone is fun as hell!)

I enjoyed a documentary on Tuvan Throat singers and dug their sound but I doubt I'd buy an album of it. What I'm saying is there is good and bad music in every genre. If I don't like a genre it's most likely because I haven't heard the best it had to offer.

There's always an exception. I don't care for nu-metal or boy bands. And an exception to the exception is that I think Justin Timberlake is ridiculously talented. I really don't care if he sings or not but he is awesome on Saturday Night Live. ANd he can sing - my wife likes some of his songs and they don't make me grind my teeth if she plays him in the car. I'm not like all Renaissance man though - I don't turn Justin up at intersections. I'm a work in progress.
