The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm staying off Facebook today. Valentine's Day is bad enough when you are alone
but when all your friends and family are posting their declarations of love, it's pretty depressing. I really am happy for all of them, really, but it's just like when all the women in the office get flowers but you. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like this today.

(13,447 posts)Got no one special this valentine's day either, so a few of are meeting after work to drink our sorrows away, lol!

(11,343 posts)i don't have a facebook page, but seeing everyone get their flowers and gifts is kinda depressing when you don't have anyone in your life to celebrate with.
So here's to us singles!!!

(18,219 posts)where everyone is getting flowers. One lady has an arrangement that must have cleared out a field of flowers and cost an arm and a leg. Jeez.
But, I have been alone for years now, and don't care if I have a love in my life or not....I have many friends who are special to me, and my cat who loves me, and a close family which is difficult since we live so far from each other. I try to focus on what I DO have, and not on what I don't have.
Be happy.....don't let it get you down.

(32,086 posts)I am enjoying the fact that I don't have to participate in that phoney "holiday", which was created solely to make florists, jewelers, candy makers and the greeting cards industry rich. How many of those women get flowers on other days, when their significant others don't have the advertising industry telling them that they must buy this shit to profess their love? I'll bet none of them. I used to be jealous of these women, too. But, then I found myself being the shoulder they all cried on when he dumped them six months later, or cheated on them, or ignored them. Not worth a bouquet if flowers and a box of waxy chocolates, IMHO.

I did send my single sister a card, as she is my protector, my rock. She is here today taking care of me. I have been knocked for a loop with a cold that has turned to bronchitis.
Here's a little love for you.

(8,646 posts)you are not alone.
Weird thing is I didn't enjoy Valentine's day when I was married, because my now-ex was such an asshole about it every year. But at least I felt like I had someone. Now I just make it a fun holiday thing with my kids. Although this year that didn't really work out because I had so many midterm exams this week.
hugs to you.

(2,286 posts)I went and made dinner for my dad. He enjoyed it and I indulged in brownies and ice cream. Nice treat and I feel better. Thanks.
