I wouldn't have given it to him if he didn't ask so nicely.

2) Things that stink.
If it's people food that stinks, so much the better.

I told him it was fattening and bad for dogs.

(11,797 posts)Garlic, onions and grapes are no good for the puppies. But they probably love the smell.

(34,658 posts)and of course my dog loves meat. He gets salmon based Taste of the Wild and even some raw diet patties. So if he shows any interest at all in what I am eating I offer him some, within the boundaries of what won't hurt him. He likes ice cream, so he gets to lick the bowl. That surprised me. Of course, if its chocolate, he doesn't get to.
But it tickles me to see him licking up butter pecan ice cream like there was no tomorrow! And occasionally I buy those doggie ice cream treats - you know, the ones made for dogs. He likes those too. They make peanut butter ice cream treats.

(11,797 posts)The dogs get meat, of course, but the one time we tried fish in the dog food...peee-yew! Gassy dogs nearly killed us in our sleep!

(13,421 posts)I lived for a time with a room-mate beagle that loved to go snack her way thru the catbox. My lab used to eat the cat puke just as soon as the cat got done horking it up. Dogs will eat the MOST disgusting things on the planet.
Having SAID that, I have yet to have a dog that would take a heartworm pill happily.

And then he'd crap them.
I did not 'recover' them.
Studs was a 175 pound German Shepherd.
And he loved her.

(17,341 posts)He had a huge avocado tree in the yard. His dog would sit near the tree waiting for the overripe ones to fall and then gobble them up.
He had a really glossy coat - the dog, not the guy who told me the story.

(1,846 posts)One ate a pound of lard and waddled around for a day as it gradually made it's way through her digestive tract. The other managed climb up onto the kitchen table on a regular basis, get a mouthful of lemon drops, and take them out to the yard where she would suck all the sweet outer coating off and then spit the rest of the candy into the grass. My parents thought my sisters were responsible until they actually caught the dog climbing onto the table.
Thanks for the Heart Kind Stranger!

(10,271 posts)Stolen off the kitchen counter while I ran upstairs. Of course, he's a golden retriever, and there's not much he won't eat. Up to and including every paper towel in a 5-block radius, blood meal for the garden, and lipstick. So far, lemons are about the only thing he won't eat.
