Winter Skin..

I have been told that too many hot baths/showers drys your skin out. I have tried using lotions like Burt's Bees..
and various other skin products..

Would like to know what you do to keep your skin from drying out in the winter!!

I don't let the shower get too hot and take B Complex tablets. But yeah, the human body was not designed to be washed as much as society demands of us.

Dial Nutriskin Ultra Hydrating body wash, Grape seed oil and lemongrass. Affordable and effective, and smells good! If that doesn't work, extreme measures may be in order - daily slathering in coco butter lotion! Good luck!

It's really meant to treat chapped cow udders in extreme weather, but here in MN many people use it because of the lanolin content to cure chapped skin.

Lots of sources online - I use Jeffers Vet Supply mostly because they are close.

You will get larger containers and the cost will be MUCH cheaper than buying from a drug store or supermarket.

Bag Balm is serious stuff - very heavy consistency and can be kind of sticky. It is perfect if you have to be out in rough weather - put it on before and it helps water proof your skin, after, it helps relieve chapped skin. Ingredients: 8-Hydroxy quinoline sulfate 0.3% in a petrolatum lanolin base. You can get it in 1 ounce, 10 ounce and 4.5 tins. http://bagbalm.com/

Udder Cream is more like a very good lotion. Udder Cream has been repackaged in consumer sizes with added scent to make it more appealing - the original "farm" version smelled a little medicinal. Looking at their website, I don't think they make the original version anymore. I've never liked the scent, either original or consumer version, and don't use Udder Cream.

http://www.beenaturals.com/babybalm.aspx

It's all natural ingredients and is solid in the jar. You just rub your fingers over it and it will kind of "melt" a little. It doesn't take much and soaks into your skin almost immediately. It doesn't feel greasy on your skin and smells wonderful, like lavender and citrus. I use it for lip balm also.

Here is what helps me:

Olay Regenerist Daycream
Nivea Body Lotion (the one for very dry skin) This is the ONLY Bodylotion that really helps me.
Paula's Choice products for dry skin. She has a website where she sells her stuff. It's really good, and not expensive.
I also use some products by LUSH, they have great balms and body butters.
Also, the best product hands down for cuticles is Birds Bee's Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. That stuff is amazing!

After bathing/showering, apply your body lotion/skin cream while your skin is still damp. Drink plenty of fluids. Purchase a humidifier or keep a pan of water on your stove at a low setting. Add lots of live plants to your home.

Skin can only absorb two things: Water and minute amounts of collagen. All the rest is basically, sealant.

I was told not to bathe so often, and to use lukewater water. For me, that made it worse. We do tend to use really hot water in the winter because it feels so good when it is cold, but I still try to keep the temperature down.

The ONLY thing that has worked for me is glycerine. I have a small spray bottle where I mix 1/2 water and 1/2 glycerine (purchased in a little bottle at the drug store). It is really sticky if you don't dilute it, but ever since I have been using this, I have few problems. I wish I had known about this years ago, I suffered for at least 30-40 years.

I use it on my hair before I surf to protect from sun and salt damage. In both summer and winter I use it on my skin after showering to combat damage from spending hours in the ocean.

It is made in the USA and no animal testing. I love the way it takes care of my face, hands and feet. But, I am an older woman (I turned 60 a couple of days after Thanksgiving) and you may find that it is too greasy for you. If that is the case, try their Vitamin E skin lotion. It is not so heavy.

Here is the skin cream:

http://www.amazon.com/Fruit-Earth-Vitamin-Cream-oz/dp/B0009VQ8J2

But don't pay that inflated Amazon price: it can be found in grocery and big box stores for $3.75 for two large jars shrink wrapped together.

And the lotion:

It's a great moisturizer, does not create bubbles and does not require water. You can clean off the excess and leave most of it on. I told my doctor I was using it on my mother and he told me it was the only thing his wife could use in the winter to keep her skin hydrated. On the down side, it is not cheap.
