These are all from my porch in Brighton, MA. Keep a special eye on the wheels of the little black car. I was using those to mark the accumulation.

...at which point the plows had been by, as you can see, so the wheel-measurement game was ruined. I went back to my whiskey, and then to bed.
This is what's left of the little black car this morning:
This is my upstairs neighbor Brendan's car:
He's never been through a blizzard before.
22 inches and counting so far. It's still snowing, and they're saying this will be a Top 5 storm for Boston when all is said and done.

(60,010 posts)Brings back memories of when I used to live in snow country, but the most we ever got was equal to your 10 pm shot.
How long before you and your neigbors can exit the houses???

(58,179 posts)It's still snowing. My immediate future involves eggs, bacon, pancakes, hash browns, orange juice, coffee and my beloved wife. There is nothing wrong with being snowed in if you're prepared for it.

Pass the Tabasco, please.

(31,706 posts)...of digging those cars out only to have the plow drive past again.
In Chicago the end of the snow marks the start of the outdoor furniture season...parking places become sacred ground marked with old lawn chairs or anything that can be schlepped (stolen grocery store carts were popular for a while). Pity the poor soul who attempts to park in that space...
Stay warm...
Cheers...

(12,874 posts)I could walk from my backyard to the alley over the top of the fence. Total snowfall was about what we had 2 years ago, but the drifting in 1967 was awesome (especially when you're 9 years old).

(175,748 posts)Fortunately, my high school was on a brief semester break so some cleanup had occurred before classes started again. My father didn't make it home from work for several days and had to stay in a seedy YMCA hotel on Division Street. Had he been able to make it home sooner, I don't know what he would have done with his car since the street was impassable.

When will the snow stop for you?

(675 posts)We'll likely end up with 18 inches, at least. I'm trying to motivate myself to go help my sister dig her car out.

(4,835 posts)Although we haven't gotten that much snow in Arkansas since I've been here; growing up in Idaho, we used to have huge snowfalls.
Sometimes the world just needs to come to a stop. Just to demonstrate that we can survive it.
At least that's my feeling on it.

(10,720 posts)...living in snow country here, it doesn't do you any good to get your car unburied if there isn't a road to drive it on!

(7,474 posts)to shovel out my walkway. They'll be back tomorrow to do the driveway. At least we are still with power. Most of us in my area were awake half the night with the sound of plows and wind. I am thankful to our public works people and light department.
Spending the day on the couch with a book. I'm too old to shovel.
Best to all who are suffering through this mess.
We have been lucky these last few winters. Payback is a real pain in the pa-toot!

(118,320 posts)went to a building that had an upper floor lounge I liked, and lost myself in my books for some hours. I finally decided I'd go back home for a nice hot bowl of curry, and found a snow drift several feet high blocking the exit door. This was before the full fall, so fortunately the snow had merely swirled high in the back of the entrance alcove, and with a bit of an effort I finally forced the door open and escaped. I only lived a block away so once out I was home
Boy! A lot of snow can fall fast in those parts! Stay warm!

(26,642 posts)the power stayed on and the snow was dry enough to not accumulate on the power lines. Shovel it quick before it turns to good old New England cement snow.
These pictures make me miss my old Hartford neighborhood.

(3,502 posts)No plows, though. The plows were all busy on main roads and slowed down by all the cars that got stuck all Friday night. There were a lot of those. Maybe tomorrow. We got about 30 inches, an all time high for here.
