I'm north of Boston. Wind is howling, snow's a-blowing. Windchill -9 degrees. I debated gonig out to do an initial snowblow of the driveway but it's just too nasty out. Can't get my generator started. God only knows why I still have power (I SHOULD NOT TYPE THESE WORDS) but I don't expect that to continue. Nasty-ass stuff out there.

(36,223 posts)Just woke up too.
Couldn't get the storm doors open without a lot of pushing.
It's still snowing, there is A LOT of SNOW. Wind is still going strong.
When is this suppose to end?

(11,093 posts)I'm in southeast NH, about 40 min above Boston. I just went outside, drifts were nasty, but wind had stopped. However, a few minutes ago wind picked up again and is howling.
Not a good night to be homeless or up in the mountains. And I think most of the highways are effectively closed.

(9,902 posts)midcoast Maine here. stay safe, and I hope you manage to get the generator going!

(11,093 posts)Or are you just far enough north?
still being whacked, lol....crazy shit out there. I posted a pic in another post of mine (in the lounge) I'm an hour and a half north of Portland - I don't have snow totals yet, but Gorham (Portland area) has recorded 31 inches. I think we have at least that and it's not supposed to stop until late afternoon around here.

(72,300 posts)omg, hate it that your generator won't start.
We plugged in the battery charger just to be sure our genny won't let us down.
I haven't taken the dog out yet. It's deep, over a foot.

(49,445 posts)I just managed to snowblow 3-4' deep snow from the garage to the street, only to realize that the street itself had 2' of snow on it.
So I'm not going to be volunteering at the EOC anytime soon.

(205,786 posts)I had to dig out an area so my dog could go out, twice, but the last time I looked out, I saw a plow! Yay! They tend to overlook us, off the beaten path...
No power outage here *knock on wood*, but know a lot are out. It's the biggest story on the local (Albany) news, so we're glued to the weather. Hoping that everyone else is safe out there!

My two German Shepherds had a real hard time trying to walk through the snow in their yard this AM for their morning pee.

(56,828 posts)but, we're luckily in the 20%. I need to go out & start clearing the driveway soon, but I keep putting it off.

(21,803 posts)It's digging-out day today. Thank goodness the storm was not as bad as I had feared for my region. No power problems, either.

(28,942 posts)Mostly light snow now. Looks like Big McLargeHuge will gone from here by this afternoon. So far no power outage, but the day ain't over. We have o/a 8 inches of snow. May activate snow blower and shovel in a couple of hours.

(32,086 posts)Been there done that numerous times back up in Chicago, although I don't remember us ever losing power, regardless of how bad it was. I hope you won't even need the generator, Tab. Keeping my fingers crossed that you and everyone else here keeps their power.
We got dumped on from the southern part of the storm on Thursday. Fortunately, it came as rain. If it was snow, we'd be buried, too. Stay safe and warm, everyone.

(72,790 posts)About 2 feet, maybe more, of snow. Power stayed on throughout.
Road still hasn't been plowed and neither has my driveway, although I did dig the car out.
Making grilled cheese and french fries now, going to take a little nap and then get back out there to shovel some more.

(5,693 posts)Snow is tapering off now, and we have 2+ feet, not counting the drifts. We never lost power, thankfully. Shoveling is going to be a pain, provided we make it out the door. It's jammed by a rather large snowdrift.

(14,881 posts)The blowing seems to be slowing, but it's still snowing. No idea how much has come down. My front door now has a drift across is that runs diagonally from 6' high down to about 3 or 4'.
I can only get out my back door, which now keeps freezing shut. I've had to blow dry it twice to pull it open since I first broke out.
My older doggie collapsed on our way in from my 1st trip down to the barn. He's ok now, but gave me a real scare. An hour later I took a 2nd trip down and the path along the driveway was completely covered...you couldn't even tell I'd been there an hour earlier. Now I have a little path cleared that seems to be holding, from the back door to the side of the house with a strip of grass peeking out, so the pups can get out to pee and poop without getting bogged down in the snow.

(11,093 posts)Roads "clear", sorta, but drifts everywhere and wind blowing; few cars on the Interstate. Huge snowpiles from plowing, hard to see around corners, etc. Still kinda slippery, speed limit reduced to 45 (although I understand in Mass and Conn the Interstates were actually closed altogether). Slow going, but you can do it.
I think it'll be easier once the wind stops blowing drifts all over. At my house we got at least 2 feet of snow, but the wind blew drifts up to 3 feet on top of one of my cars. Wind is still biting and nasty, still very dangerous to be out unprotected.
