Yes, you Texans and, also, normal folk who have happened to have lived in Texas know Whattaburger. It's Whattaburger as in "What a burger!" Yet, all Texans call it "Water Burger". This has amused me since 1994 when I first moved to Texas, but for some reason this is my first post about it.

(12,132 posts)When I was a teenager my best friend and I lived a block from a Whataburger near Dallas and we went up there to apply for a job. The manager told us we would have to cut our hair so we declined (Got jobs at the less stylistically demanding Pizza Inn down the street).
several years later I moved to Florida and while in Vo-Tech school I met a girl who became my wife. A few years later she got a job and made a best friend. Early on in the friendship we discovered that my wife's friend had grown up in Dallas not far from where I lived.
My wife's friend had an older sister who had worked at the Whataburger my friend and I had applied at years before. She was the manager who wouldn't hire us for our hair.
We're all still friends though. I wasn't mad at her - she actually wanted to hire us but could not bend the rules and I understood that.
Does Mel Tillis still advertise for them? Wh-wh-wh-whataburger! I always preferred Sonic to Whataburger though.
