I never realized why my SO loved to watch it with me. Then I started to catch on. Despite the violence, racism, etc....it is a soap opera. The charachters are complex, there are multiple story-lines, and the constant antagonist/protagonist swaps will make you go crazy.

I waited until season 4 before finally giving in. I wasn't looking for some biker-gang show.....but then we ended up sitting on the couch watching seasons 1-3 in a week and a half on netflix.

Netflix just became a contender. As one reviewer said, it's The West Wing written by Sorkin's evil twin. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are absolutely brilliant.
