The method behind almost every magic trick is usually so embarrassingly simple, that it's kind of a letdown to find out how they work.

Until you practice a bunch and realize that actually pulling them off convincingly is a really amazing skill.

I'm really fond of Ricky Jay's presentation of the cup and balls.

I know I'm in the minority, there, but I am fascinated by elegance and simplicity. The best illusions are incredibly elegant and simple.
