So, it seems like I quickly imprinted upon our new kitten Pico!

When my wife and I went to the shelter a few weeks ago, Pico was a very young kitten in a cage with three larger cats - he was the first kitten I saw, and I sat on the floor and he came over to me and rubbed against my fingers. we looked at all of the cats that day, but it was clear that Pico chose me.....

And here we are, weeks later, and it is like a velcro kitten! when I am working at the laptop or watching a movie (like now), he climbs up on my chest just below my neck. At 6:30 in the morning, he gets on the bed and kneads my shoulders and rubs his nose up to mine.

My wife and daughters call him, he ignores them - if they put him on their laps, he will amuse them for a short while until he finds me and the magnet effect happens - back to my chest, or legs, or anywhere on or near me.

I don't know if or how long this will last, but it is quite amusing (and a bit moving!). Our two older kittens - actually 1 and 2 years old - are now those aloof "cats" that will come by when they need something, otherwise find some place sunny and warm they can nap.

Anyone else ever had an imprinting experience with a kitten?

2. Not as a kitten. I had a tuxedo adult male in a big pen of cats choose me once at a shelter.

He was about a year and a half old. He leapt up on a cat tree and pulled me to him. Wouldn't let go.

Lived almost sixteen years after that. Sleeping with me most every night.

My wife would always tell people that he 'chose me.'

3. absolutely. He chose me as soon as I walked the door and approached his cage.

Right now it is cat busy time - all three are racing around the house, getting into all sorts of mischief, as I get ready to head to bed - I suppose they are at it all night....we find some unusually disturbed stuff in the morning, but it is all good fun!

She was really too little to put any kind of chemical on, and I was not about to bring her into the house with the brazillion fleas, so I sat outside with her little protesting self for literally two hours combing and drowning fleas. By the time I was finished, I was her mother as far as she was concerned, and we've been bonded ever since. She loves our little rituals and still loves to have her head and ears carefully groomed. Everyone else she tolerates. And I love her utterly unreasonably.
