I gave my notice yesterday. My boss and his boss have tried to talk me out of it. I need to make a lot more money and I don't see it happening there. I'm not leaving out of a desire for a different job. I like it there. I just need a lot more money. Need, it's not just a simple desire. We're losing money every month. I'm going broke working there. I simply can't allow that to happen.
They're trying to make me seem foolish. I don't understand what part of "going broke" they don't understand. Stay there and go further and further into debt or try to make something else happen. I don't have much choice.
I've got a new job lined up that I start next Wednesday. Wish me luck.

(23,350 posts)It's not easy to leave a job that you like. Too bad the current bosses didn't back up their talk with money. If anyone is being foolish, I don't think it's you.

... and decisively. CONGRATULATIONS on the new job!!!
.

Don't let them faze you one little bit. Think of Jen a lot and, unless they come up with
a completely unexpected and REMARKABLE counter-offer, realize... really KNOW they
are simply trying to blow smoke up your ass.
.
You remember the co-worker/friend I told you about who almost literally worked himself
to death getting a degree from a trade school so he could improve his and his family's
lot?
.
He was a CRUCIAL employee. He worked the relatively dangerous and unhealthy plating
room at our machinespring-making factory AND, after the fulltime maintenance man
retired, they had recruited him to "fill in" for that position for an extra 50 cents/hr or so.
.
.
.
DESPITE him telling them that his new job would immediately triple his salary and provide
him with a company car, they tried to entice him into staying by reminding him that the
next month, he was going to receive a scheduled 25 cents/hr pay raise.
.
I shit you not.
.
While your bosses may not be that idiotic, I'd trust YOUR judgment -- ESPECIALLY your
judgment about the situation before I'd give the slightest credence to THEIR judgment.
.
You the MAN... ... ... ... man!!!
.
.
.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Think of Jen. Don't take them too seriously. Just try to keep a
good job reference... but not at too great a cost to you.

(23,272 posts)Tell them you like it there, you like them. Be honest and tell them you don't want to leave.
Offer to stay at the higher salary level. If they really want you they'll match it.
If not then its obvious that you're leaving. That shouldn't engender any hard feelings and retain enough goodwill that you've kept them as a future reference.

I hear the going broke story from an OTR driver every other week.
