Back in the early '70s (my early 20s) I used to be the mid-atlantic sales rep for his work, via the Vorpal Gallery in SF. That was one of my favorite jobs ever.

if there was ever a perfect whipping post that shouldn't offend anyone, it is Meta - and if there is somebody that seriously wants to stand up and "defend" the forum's honor, I will certainly give apologizing some thought.

It is often used for that. The Lounge has a different function, from which it often strays. More's the pity. In fact, this thread is really more of a Meta thread. It is discussing and bemoaning DU.
