It's 'HAHM-burg' not 'HAM-burg'.

(Actually, I think it's Hahm-bourg.)
Our Dear Governor just returned from a bidness seeking junket to Germany.
On the taxpayer's dime, natch.

And every local Tee-Vee reporter is telling us all about his trip to HAMburg.
jeez

and I too never got used to that.

But I have no trouble with calling carbonated drinks soda, pop, soda pop, coke, or fanta.

I don't know if it's something about ground meat or germans that makes hamburg hurt my ears.

Every country has its own pronunciation of places in other countries. It's also BerLEEN, not Berlin, Muenchen, not Munich, Koeln and not Cologne, Milano and not Milan, Roma and not Rome, Sumuo instead of Finland, Magyar instead of Hungarian, Den Haag, not The Hague, and PaREE and not Paris. And that's just for starters.

But nobody would say they just returned from PaREE, now would they?

Honestly now, wouldn't you think someone who said he'd just come back from PaREE a pretentious wanker? Why be inconsistent?
