Harry Potter fanatics. A question about HP1--Sorcerer STone

During the chess game, what position was Harry playing that he was able to move diagonally three or four spots. I don't recall that he took the position of a Bishop, but that's the only way he could have made that last move.

diagonally, which means he was either a bishop or a queen.
