#1. Fish... I started to panic and scared myself and everyone else "choking" on a fish
bone when I was very young -- eating fish scared the shit out of me (not literally). I
STILL don't like fish -- but have learned to love love LOVE shellfish (no bones).

#2. Asparagus -- she got tired of me vomiting at the table. Curious thing -- she would
boil asparagus (and too much -- she was an EXCELLENT 50's-trained home cook) and
then put it on bread with a TON of butter poured over it and broil the whole thing. I
worshiped the ground that asparagus-FLAVORED toast walked on -- so she would make
extra and then give me the toast and eat the extra asparagus herself.

I attribute her "take it or leave it" rule to the fact that I enjoy such a DIVERSE range
of foods now -- otherwise, I might've been stuck with mac-and-cheese and burgers
my whole life.
