(20,582 posts)I can't touch my toes
But those cute photos make me feel better
I can also touch the floor with the palm of my hands without bending my legs.

(18,219 posts)I could do that years ago.....but now, I touch my toes only with my legs curled up under me.

(4,281 posts)41, just flexible.

(18,219 posts)You are 5-10 years from "not young", depending on lifestyle, genes, etc. But I agree that it is quite an accomplishment to still be that flexible. Really enjoy the next 10 years.

(37,648 posts)I'm sure you can do something that others your age typically can't do very well.
As for me, I've always been a bit flexible. BUT ask me to run longer than 2 minutes, and I'm in agony! I hate it, and it feels awful. I get out of breath & everything all over my body jiggles til it hurts. I hate it!
If you want to be more flexible, yoga helps. Even the beginner series. And even if you can only do a pose partially.
What can you do, Curmudgeon? Come on, now...I'm sure you have a knack at something most of us don't.

(18,219 posts)The book I used was by Richard Hittleman and I did it off and on for years. Then all of a sudden, I had severe backaches when I did it, and I could not narrow it down to which position was causing the problems.....but I don't have back problems and never did. Until I started back up on the exercises. Stopped them, pain went away. I only felt guilty for trying to get my mother to do yoga with me, and she kept complaining that her back was getting worse every day with me telling her it is supposed to be good for her back. Aren't we little know-it-all shits when we are young!
I am not being humble when I say that I can't think of anything I can do better than others of my age (one year older than you). But I sure do walk fast. I can't find walking partners (except for when my mother was alive), and everyone at work laughs at how fast I move, even just going down the hall. LOL, such a feat!
I can touch the floor with the soles of my feet without bending my arms!
HA!

If I am diligent with my stretching, I can touch my nose to my knees while I'm at it.
Laying flat on my back.
I'm definitely not young, and I can put my palms on the floor without bending my legs. Until a few years ago, I could kick my foot as high as my head, too, Rockette style. And I was never particularly athletic, unless middle school cheerleader counts.

(22,845 posts)Strangely enough, I could never touch my toes as a teenager or in my 20s-30s.
Maybe all the garden work I've done in the past couple of decades limbered me up. I can touch the floor with my knuckles.

(37,648 posts)At my age, I have wiggle room in my muscles, I think. Plus, I work at stretching. It feels better than aerobics.
