What's all the fuss about "50 Shades of Grey"?

I'm about 1/3 way in.

Pretty boring so far. One-dimensional characters. Ho-hum sex scenes. Zero research (a conversation between a pilot and ATC is complete nonsense). No dom would put up with her recalcitrance even from the start. He's got a room full of toys and a domineering mother? How utterly Freudian.

Every book store in town has stacks of them at the front entrance. Walmart has them in the remainders bin. I was at a sex trade show and they were giving them away. Last month, every third person on the LRT was reading it. I was waiting for the price to come down and thought I'd pick them up cheap at the used book store (assuming I could find a clean copy) but they were cheaper at the trade show.

He's spanked her once - badly. He knows absolutely nothing about nipple-gasms. She at least has an excuse for being hopeless but suddenly she's an expert in (spoiler). She's dating the richest man in sight and her father is all "that's nice".

It may be horribly written and extremely lame. If it encourages couples to experiment and reconnect... good for them I say.

When the girl (forgot her name) said "Oh, wow!" for about the 20th time I gave up. Boring is right.

about it so much. Now, I feel like I HAVE to read it all.

It reminds me of a young reader novel - like a teen book (without the sex, of course.). That is the level of writing.

It is also SO absurd and unbelievable that a girl that naive and that inexperienced would not have ran out the door when seeing the "sex/torture" room.

Seriously, I dragged myself through the first one and wouldn't touch the others with a ten foot pole. I have never been so bored and irritated with a couple in my life. And the sex was bad. And the portions were too small.

She makes a big point of saying Grey isn't in the kitchen. The next line is him speaking.
