Not fond of cranberry sauce either. I like turkey OK, but I can take it or leave it. But I love the sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn and green beans, broccoli rice casserole and hot bread (cornbread and hot rolls). And I go nuts over pecan pie, which I only eat at Thankgiving. Anyone else here not like stuffing?

(60,015 posts)pretty simple - bread, turkey sausage, onions, celery, poultry seasoning, salt, pepper and drippings from the bird....yum!
For us - turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots vichy, cranberry sauce...home made pecan pie and home made vanilla ice cream....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
(and then a long walk with the dogs, and then a long nap!

(823 posts)I love dressing/stuffing. But if it contains sage, I can not stand it.
Have you tried it without sage?

(28,552 posts)... made from several-days-old cornbread (won't be mushy) and loaded with sage is the highlight of our Thanksgiving meal, everyone loves it. Could just be a southern thing.
I wouldn't eat white bread stuffing if you paid me

(32,086 posts)I would be quite content with just a plate of stuffing. Gravy or no gravy.

(32,086 posts)And, I am ashamed to admit that I love KFC's gravy. It is an acceptable substitute. I don't care much for anything else they have, though.

(32,086 posts)Those can be easily made for vegehegians. I am completely serious about being happy with just a bowl of stuffing. And, some pumpkin pie or custard for dessert. To heck with the turkey. It's usually just me and the cat, and I haven't had traditional Thanksgiving dinner in years. This year will be no different. I am seriously considering making pizza for dinner tomorrow--meatless. The closest I am going to get to traditional foods is a bowl of curried butternut squash bisque for lunch. I thought about just making a dish of stuffing, but I am still wearing stuffing from years gone by on my hips and thighs. No room in my clothing for any more.

(47,675 posts)And no, they're not barefoot and pregnant (well, my middle one is usually barefoot). They just love to cook. I'm generally the cook, but I yield the kitchen when they want it. I'll probably be hiding in my "man cave" (where I'm sitting right now - computer room) while they have fun and all talk at the same time. I remember my aunts doing that with my grandmother. I don't know how they ever heard a word anyone else said and I STILL can't figure it out with my daughters.

(20,176 posts)You can mail me your stuffing. Thx!

(20,176 posts)I figure you might need 4 or 5 stamps.
HopeHoops
(47,675 posts)I think that starts at about $5.20 now. It's cheaper than UPS. Besides, you'll need freezer packs and they weigh a lot - 8 lbs/gallon is the rule.

(20,176 posts)I think you're making this harder, I was going to use a manila envelope...but for what it would cost, I can buy homestyle stuffing.

(47,675 posts)It's still a good deal, mind you, but it's hard to ship anything otherwise. On the plus side, the boxes are free! Order them from USPS.com and they deliver them to your door within a couple of days. It's illegal to use them for anything OTHER than Priority mail, but hey, free boxes are cool! That's the only way I ship things anymore. No other service can touch the price or the delivery time. Hell, I've got "forever stamps" I bought for 42 cents each. Show me ONE other company that can deliver a letter from PA to HI for that price!
I know, I know, the USPS isn't a company, but still.

(8,747 posts)Is the second best part of the meal. Cranberry sauce is the third. And turkey is the best part.
Those three together make a complete meal, IMO, nothing else needed.
And I love all the rest of the things you mentioned, expect sweet potatoes. Hate them and refuse to eat them.

(3,879 posts)I still hate the casserole with marshmallows on top. And my aunts used to use canned sweet potatoes for that! But one time at my sister's house she served us baked sweet potatoes with just butter, and I fell in love. That's how I fix them now. I have also substituted baked mashed sweet potatoes for pumpkin in my pumpkin bread. Try them plain sometime, and maybe I'll try stuffing again.

I miss that stuffing.
Oh right, you don't like stuffing. Sorry about that.

(46,179 posts)At least, it is when I make it.
The cranberry sauce? I can take it or leave it; it's okay with a bite of turkey.
I make my stuffing out of sourdough, rye, and home-made corn bread. It has onions, celery, mushrooms, apples, walnuts, and sometimes some giblets. It's moistened with the giblet broth, seasoned with salt, pepper and sage.
I love it.
Sweet potatoes? If they are just baked with butter, yes. Candied? Won't touch them. The rest? All good. I like pecan pie, but it's second to pumpkin. I'll eat pumpkin pie all year.

(22,715 posts)Now I think it's the best part of Thanksgiving. I could eat just stuffing with gravy and a salad. Forget the turkey. What a mediocre, bland tasting bird.

(6,336 posts)I use apples and cranberries in mine and my sister always picks a fight with me about not being more traditional. One of the many reasons I hate holidays.

(21,046 posts)one bag of herb, one bag of cornbread, one stick of butter, sauteed onions, chicken broth, chopped up hardboiled eggs and shrooms. No celery. Baked in a 5 qt Corning Ware dutch oven.
sweet potatoes with oranges, pineapple, butter, brown sugar and marshmallows on top.

(37,648 posts)I really don't like stuffing or dressing. I'm also suspicious about what's in that mushy stuff.
But that's what's fun about being a grownup! I don't have to make or eat the stuff! So I cook a turkey for Thanksgiving, and may not even prepare side dishes. I may do a green salad with cucumbers & tomatoes. I bought some dates to eat as a snack (nature's candy). I don't eat bread, normally.
So I and the dogs eat lots of turkey! And I eat on it for days until it's gone. Roasted turkey, then turkey sandwiches, then turkey soup with the bones and whatever else I have to throw in.

To each their own. Personally can't stand squash, pumpkin pie or pecan pie

(692 posts)Definitely depends on what type of stuffing. I like cornbread stuffing.
