(60,010 posts)When I am housebound for any reason, I love books to read, and audio books, and good/favorite tv series to watch on my puter.

Does she like animals? Can you get in touch with a service organization to bring a dog or cat to her on a regular basis for some comforting and snuggling?
Music? An easy to manipulate CD player and some great music?

One Christmas (when I was flush), I got them each a half-day at a spa to be pampered.

MAN... did they ever love that.

On the other hand, remember the 60's - 70's? The lights rotated and changed colors
every 20-30 seconds or so. In the 90's, when my parents were both in their 70's, I got
them one of these. They loved IT -- they even used to turn out all the other lights and
enjoy the awesome mellow -- the old closeted hippies!!!

(3,702 posts)I love the adopt an endangered animal - you get a plush toy too (ok I am a softie for animals)
Heifer International is one of my favorites too - you can give the gift of a goat or cow to help a family in need to be self-sustaining.

I suggest this kind of stuff in addition to the above recommendations for day spa gifts only because you mentioned she doesn't want a lot of clutter.
I have a dear friend who has everything she wants or needs and she has always been thrilled with these gifts.
Clearly there are hundreds of worthy causes to donate to - I was just throwing in my 2 cents.

(1 post)There are lots of stuff that you can gift, what you think about edible gifts. Cookie bouquets will be a great gifts for every occasion, even you can get it custom packed for the corporate gifting. The popularity for edible gifts are growing and this is the reason this is the best time to gift your loved one's. I have already booked mine for this christmas, as I need to gift all my friends and family.

(3,502 posts)Cuddly warm throw that's especially nice. Some of those fleece shawls with pockets are suprisingly appealing to older people. They get cold. My mother-in-law is reasonably good health and is cold even in Florida sometimes. I'm only a little bit old myself and have already started to develop a new appreciation for warm and cozy when the temp drops. You can get all that online and get it sent right to her.

(4,033 posts)to read to her, to play a board game, or whatever, just a companion,no nursing skills. Try going through a non profit like catholic charities or the United Jewish Federation in the town she lives in, they usually have rosters of companions that have been completely vetted in regard to background investigations.
Hope that helps
