... so she spent a lot of time living both in Germany AND the U.S. and she went to
American schools the whole time. Her German accent was USUALLY barely noticeable
to casual acquaintances.

She had a pet name for "Little MFM" -- Fido. I thought it was cute but odd, but didn't
think to ask her WHY for quite a while.

When I did, she told me that a character in a novel had impressed her -- with his
description of an orgasm in an Italian version of "a little death".
.
The character was Fido (a reasonable German-oriented guess)... and the novel was
"The Godfather".

In the early '80s I lived in a duplex and a German woman and her daughter who lived on the other side became my friends.
Her hot water heater wasn't producing hot water and I was with her when she called our old Italian landlord for the third time, trying to explain what was wrong. He could not seem to get the jist of, "No, the Walve must be open, because I can hear water running inside the heater! I didn't touch any Walves on the outside!"
