which turned out fine because the colleges I applied to, all wanted essays on specific topics to insure you hadn't just written one highly-polished and heavily-edited (or professionally-edited) essay. The topics were vague and would allow you to write about pretty much whatever you wanted, but put in such a way as to necessitate writing something from scratch.

What does she want to write about?

My oldest is a fair few years past doing it, and my youngest is 16 so I'm not savvy anymore to the process. But I thought they asked a specific question - like about a life changing event or the usual bullshit.

Does she get the opportunity to just submit 500 words of her own thoughts and prose??

Honestly, I think that's very, very cool.

If you can figure out a way to incorporate the mascot in to it, I think that might be a bonus.

If I had to do it all over, I'd create an allegory on the Turtle and span it from quick origin, quick mention of evolution, and then the journey through the oceans hinting at wanting to learn through the exploration.

I don't know...

just let go. Your daughter knows what's expected of her, she knows she has to write an essay, she knows when it's due. Let her be. Let her do what she has to do on her own timeline. She's under enough stress already.
