How Many States Have You Visited?

I was sitting here thinking about/planning my vacation for this coming spring. There are only 4 states I haven't been to. Alaska, Delaware, Maine, and Vermont. I'm going to take a road trip this spring and hit Vermont, Maine, and Delaware. I guess I'll have to wait awhile and maybe take an Alaskan cruise then I will have hit them all.

I've never been further west than Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas. Not fond because I'm glad I haven't been further, just fond in that it's an easy way for me to keep track...And it's fun to say "Possum Kingdom".

But I've driven back and forth along the east coast pretty extensively up to and including Canada. I've been to Maine for business and then I missed some of the other New England states but have been everywhere from Maryland south. Actually, I was in Pennsylvania at the Philly airport for a layover so I guess that counts but I didn't get a cheese steak or a pretzel so it only counts half.

I was in New Hampshire when I was a truck driver and I was about 4 miles from the Maine border. Heck, I could have driven the 4 miles and marked another state off my list.

It was amazing. Everything I saw was literally the most beautiful thing Ive eve seen. The towns you stop in are touristy though, but I was able to find some legit book stores and townie bars by walking a few blocks.

I've never had any plans to visit "all the states" or anything, it's just happened. If I do end up visiting either state it will probably be some random reason and I hope I'll be able to stick around and visit for a spell.

One of my brothers was once sent to Florida by his employer but he didn't see anything of the state but the airport, what he could see out the window of a limousine, and a hotel. After the meeting his company flew him right back home to California. The big boss of this huge corporation always wanted to deal with "his men," and yes they were all men, face-to-face and one of his homes was in Florida. Shortly afterwards my brother decided the job sucked and he quit. Now he lives by the beach and builds motorcycles. But he's been to all the states.

so it allowed me to see a lot of the country I hadn't seen before. I got sick a couple of years ago and had to retire early but I made a promise to myself that when I got better I would visit the other 4 states that I hadn't been to yet. Now I'm feeling a lot better and I can't wait to finish my goal.

But most of that was when I was a little kid and I don't remember most of it. I only really recall the stupid things like when my sister cut her toe on a soda can top (they used to actually come off the can back then and people just tossed them on the ground) and being scared of the fork lightening in the Bad Lands or when a couple of buffalo wandered through our campsite and one of them left a HUGE crap that smelled so bad we had to pull up stakes and move the camp to another site. Dumb stuff like that.

I remember a lot about the east coast states when I got older and we traveled up and down them then. But again, it seems like the more stupid things that I remember most. Like, trying to find a laundrumat in the middle of nowhere in one of the carolinas or when we all got sun stroke in the Florida keys or when one of my brothers got bit in the butt by a mean pelican somewhere down south or when my mom got constipation in Maine and we spent more time in rest stop bathrooms than anywhere else (to this day she does not remember Maine fondly).
