Any Personal Injury Lawyers Want to Weigh In Here? (Hypothetically, Of Course)
Please delete if this is inappropriate for the Lounge. Here's our dilemma:
1. Hubby is a Vietnam vet whose exposure to Agent Orange resulted in eczema/psoriasis patches over much of his body.
2. The condition was being treated at the V.A. hospital with increasing exposure to light-box therapy, with a photo-sensitizing agent to allow a lower dose of the powerful UVA light application.
3. The N.P. at the Dermatology Clinic of the hospital wanted to use more of the agent and additional minutes of UVA. Hubby demurred, saying he felt uncomfortable with that idea at this time after his reading about it on medical websites.
4. N.P. went ahead with her treatment plan over hubby's objections.
5. Two days after the treatment, hubby had second-degree burns over his whole body (since the patient disrobes completely).
6. N.P. and her department head both called to say that they were "sorry."
7. Hubby's P.C.P. at the V.A. and an outside dermatologist consulted both went on record as saying what happened to him was "definitely malpractice."
8. The P.C.P. insisted upon hospital care.
9. Hubby has been hospitalized for burn treatment for a week now and should be released tomorrow. His pain level was so great, he was on I.V. morphine the entire time, especially when wound debridement was done by the nurses.
So this wouldn't be a "frivolous" medical malpractice lawsuit. We both feel there must be compensation for what was done to him.
Any advice and tips about how we should approach this situation would be greatly appreciated by a newbie who has been impressed with the level of expertise shown by so many members on so many subjects. I've been just livid and at a loss as to what we should do first.

I wish I could tell you who to contact, but I do want to say I think you are doing the right thing in pursuing this.
